My Philosophy of Teaching With Technology

Without technology, human beings cannot write. Whether that technology be a chisel and a cave wall or the newest Apple notebook, writing—short of drawing your own blood and smearing it on a tree—requires technology. Thus one cannot teach writing without teaching writing technologies as well. As a writing teacher, then, I am also a technology teacher.

Just as a music teacher cannot make musicians without teaching them the instrument through which that music comes, a writing teacher cannot make writers without teaching them the instrument through which that writing comes. Now, in the beginning of the 21st Century, the list of instruments through which writing comes includes much more than pens and pencils and paper. The links above explain the various ways this belief affects my teaching of writing.
