Drawing Studio
Drawing develops one's ability to see and enables one to think visually. These capabilities are central to work done in many areas – painting and printmaking, sculpture, and crafts, as well as the applied arts and design disciplines.
The primary purpose of the problems presented in this course will be to increase your ability to observe and to translate observations and ideas into two-dimensional images – to draw. Assignments deal with the structural elements of art: line, shape, mass, volume, value, texture, time.
The qualities of different drawing materials will be explored in relation to those elements. Other discussions and assignments will begin to deal with the search for subject matter and imagery.
A facility in drawing really only comes through practice, drawing every day – from landscape, figure, memory, imagination – and with a variety of media. This course is a starting place.
