Scripture Warns Against Mormonism
Why don't Mormons test Joseph Smith and LDS teachings as Scripture warns us to do? Are Mormons more afraid of questioning their faith than they are of eternity in hell?
| God warns | Fact of Mormonism | Mormons conclude |
| Not everyone who speaks a true prophecy is a true prophet (Deuteronomy 13) | Joseph Smith (supposedly) made some true prophecies | "Smith must be a true prophet!" |
| A prophet who speaks a false prophecy is not a true prophet (Deuteronomy 18:21-22) | Joseph Smith made plenty of false prophecies (just a few are found here) | "Smith is a true prophet!" |
| If even an angel of heaven teaches another gospel, let him be condemned (Galatians 1:6-10) | Mormonism admits to believing in a different Jesus from the Bible (see here) | "We have the fullness of the Gospel!" |
| If anyone teaches a different Jesus, he is a false apostle (2 Corinthians 11:1-15) | Mormon prophet admits to believing in a different Jesus from the Bible (see here) | "Joseph Smith is a true prophet!" |
| False teachers will make up stories, and they will be destroyed (2 Peter 2:1-3) | Smith changed his stories, made up two different accounts, is historically and factually inaccurate in his tales (proof is everywhere, but check out Mormonism's problems and changes and history for some) | "We should follow Joseph Smith!" |
| Test for false prophets (1 John 4:1) | Don't test Joseph Smith, just pray about him | "Joseph Smith is a true prophet!" |
| False prophets teach a broad path to salvation (Matthew 7:13-15) | Mormonism teaches that the broad way leads to salvation (see here) | "Mormonism is true, I know it is!" |
