Mormons and the Priesthood: Idiotic, Moronic...but not Aaronic

Most Mormon males (starting at age 12) claim to have the authority of the Aaronic priesthood. As Aaronic priests, Mormons believe they hold the offices of bishop, priest, teacher, and deacon. They view the Aaronic priesthood as a lesser step on the way to becoming part of the (supposed) Melchizedek priesthood, which may happen as early as age 18, when the Mormons might become elders in the organization. The problem is that the Mormon idea of the Aaronic priesthood is nothing like the Biblical Aaronic priesthood. It's a complete and total farce. The Mormon teaching about the Aaronic (and Melchizedek) priesthood is so far from God's truth that they rely almost entirely on statements recorded in Doctrine and Covenants to support their heresy.

We believe that a man must be called of God by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands, by those who are in authority to preach the gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.Joseph Smith, 5th Article of Faith

What is the Priesthood? It is nothing more or less than the power of God delegated to man by which man can act in the earth for the salvation of the human family...by which they may baptize for the remission of sins and lay on hands for the reception of the Holy Ghost, and by which they can remit sin with the sanction and blessing of Almighty God. It is the same power and priesthood that was committed to the disciples of Christ while He was upon the earth....Joseph Fielding Smith

The Biblical Aaronic Priesthood

  • Qualifications
    • Aaron and his descendants only (Exodus 28:1; 29:9; 29:44; Numbers 18:1-7; Leviticus 6:19-23; Exodus 28:43; Nehemhiah 7:61-65)
      • Others who tried to take on the Aaronic responsibilities for themselves were punished (King Uzziah in 2 Chronicles 26:1-3, 16-21; Jeroboam's priests in 1 Kings 13:33-34; Dathan and Abiram in Numbers 16:1-35)
      • Joseph Smith was not of Aaron, not a Levite...not even a Jew at all!
      • The Aaronic priesthood was entirely hereditary, yet in the LDS organization, this fundamental fact is completely ignored
    • Physical requirements
      • Joseph Smith had part of his leg removed during an operation he had when he was young, disqualifying him from the Aaronic priesthood according to Leviticus 21:16-23
      • Tons of requirements in Leviticus 21 which are ignored completely by the LDS organization
      • Aaronic priesthood was only for those ages 30 to 50 (Numbers 4:35), which is, again, conveniently ignored by the LDS organization
  • Ordination of Aaronic priests, Biblical vs LDS
    • Biblical (Exodus 29, Leviticus 8)
      • Washed with water (v4)
      • Dressed in special robes (v5-6)
      • Anointed with oil (v7)
      • Laid hands on the head of a bull (v10)
      • Bull then killed, blood spread, fat and kidneys offered on alter, remains burned, etc (v11-14)
      • Laid hands on the head of a ram (v15)
      • Ram killed, blood spread, remains burned (v16-18)
      • Laid hands on another ram (v19)
      • Ram killed, blood spread on priests and altar (v20)
      • Blood and oil sprinkled on priests and garments (v21)
      • Ram and breah offered as wave offering (v22-25)
      • Ram breast given to the one ordaining the priests (v26)
      • Ram shoulder was given to them (v27)
      • Priests ate of ram and bread (v30-33)
      • One bull and two lambs offered daily for 7 days (v35-44)
    • LDS
      • Lay hands on priests-to-be and recite some words
    • Comparison
      • There is absolutely no point of similarity between the two ordination procedures

Jesus did not have the Aaronic priesthood, so how could He have passed it on? He wasn't of the right tribe (Hebrews 7:13-14)! The LDS idea of the Aaronic priesthood is so far from the Biblical priesthood that it's absolutely absurd that any Mormons believe in it. Scripture teaches that all true believers are priests (1 Peter 2:5,9).
