Was Eden in both Missouri and Assyria, as Mormons claim?

In response to one of my questions for Mormons, which asked how Eden could be in both Jackson, Missouri and Assyria (according to Mormonism):

Up untill the days of Peleg the land on earth was unified(Gen10:25). The political boundary long afterwards known as the land of Assyria, and the rivers are not necessarily the same ones that are commonly known today by similiar names.Tim Lau (s*****s@gmail.com), April 14, 2007

Why they're still wrong

Genesis 10:25 says "the earth was divided" in the days of Peleg (palag means "separate, divide").

  1. Nothing indicates this is speaking of the earth being physically divided by water. The Mormon argument makes an assumption without any support to back it up.
  2. There is reason to believe that the dividing of the earth here is a reference to the people being divided by their scattered languages, which is recorded in Genesis 11.
  3. The same word for "divide" (palag) is used in Psalms 59:9 referring specifically to languages.
  4. Find a globe. Find Missouri. Now find Assyria. ... 'Nuff said.
