Jesus is not Michael the Archangel

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus is actually Michael the Archangel. They will usually quote this passage to support their belief:

because the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel's voice and with God's trumpet, and those who are dead in union with Christ will rise first.1 Thessalonians 4:16, NWT

If you're like me, you didn't catch how this shows that Jesus is Michael. JWs believe that if Jesus has "an archangel's voice", then He must be the archangel!

Responding to JWs

When JWs quote 1 Thessalonians 4:16, say, "If Jesus has 'God's trumpet', He must be God!" This is the same reasoning they use to show that Jesus is Michael the Archangel, and it backfires on them.

Using Hebrews 1:13

But with reference to which one of the angels has he ever said: "Sit at my right hand, until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet"?Hebrews 1:13, NWT

This is a rhetorical question with the implied answer of "None of them!" If Jesus were an angel, this question would make no sense!

Using Jude 1:9 and Matthew 4:10

In Matthew 4, Jesus rebuked Satan:

Then Jesus said to him: "Go away, Satan! For it is written, 'It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.'"Matthew 4:10, NWT

Yet we read in Jude 1:9 that Michael called upon the Lord to rebuke Satan:

But when Michael the archangel had a difference with the Devil and was disputing about Moses' body, he did not dare to bring a judgment against him in abusive terms, but said: "May Jehovah rebuke you."Jude 1:9, NWT
