According to Mormonism...

Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the God of the Old Testament, called Jehovah. God the Father is a separate entity altogether, called Elohim. Elohim is the father of Jehovah and Satan, as well as all of humanity (we're all spirit brothers with Jesus and Satan). There are many gods, and Jesus and the Father are not one God, but are only one in purpose. Where the Bible teaches the Trinity, Mormonism teaches the Triad.

Denying Jesus' true nature, Mormons believe in an entirely different Jesus from Christians. Our God is one, theirs are many. Our God is eternal, theirs are finite. Our Jesus is the uncreated Creator, theirs is a created being.

Mormonism has changed its teaching here (a clear sign of a cult). The LDS used to teach that Jehovah is the Father (whereas it now teaches that Jehovah is the son). Joseph Smith himself used to teach that Jehovah and Elohim are the same, both referencing God the Father.

Refuting the Mormon doctrine that Jesus and the Father are different gods essentially proves all of Mormonism to be faulty and is not difficult to do!

Refuting the Triad (or Jehovah is Elohim)

Mormon heresy

According to Mormonism, there are many gods:

This reference, then, to the three as one God, must be interpreted to mean that they constitute one Godhead or Supreme Council, composed of three separate personages, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost...it is very strange that Christian people can be confused and believe that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are one substance or entity.Answers to Gospel Questions, First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (1972), p.10

According to Mormonism, Jesus is the God (Jehovah) of the Old Testament:

With this meaning, as the context shows in every case, Jehovah who is Jesus Christ the son of Elohim, is called "the Father," and even "the very Eternal Father of heaven and earth...Articles of Faith, James Talmage, Desert Book Company, Salt Lake City, Utah. (1985), p.421

According to Mormonism, God the Father is the literal father of Jesus and all other spirits (Satan, humans, angels, demons):

God the Eternal Father, whom we designate by the exalted name-title "Elohim," is the literal Parent of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and of the spirits of the human race. Elohim is the Father in every sense in which Jesus Christ is so designated, and distinctively He is the Father of spirits. ... Jesus Christ is the Son of Elohim both as spiritual and bodily offspring; that is to say, Elohim is literally the Father of the spirit of Jesus Christ and also of the body in which Jesus Christ performed His mission in the flesh, and which body died on the cross and was afterward taken up by the process of resurrection, and is now the immortalized tabernacle of the eternal spirit of our Lord and SaviorEncyclopedia of Mormonism vol.4 pp.1670-1671

Biblical truth

Remember: Mormonism teaches that Elohim = God the Father, and Jehovah = Jesus, Elohim's literal son.

In the Bible, Elohim is translated as "God," and Jehovah is translated as "Lord."

10 "You are my witnesses," says the LORD [Jehovah],
"my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may consider and believe in me,
and understand that I am he.
No god [elohim] was formed before me,
and none will outlive me.
11 I, I am the LORD [Jehovah],
and there is no deliverer besides me.Isaiah 43:10-11

In the above verses, Jehovah says there is no Elohim besides him. Translated into Mormonese, it is Jesus saying there is no God the Father besides him. This, again, disproves all of Mormonism.

This is what the LORD [Jehovah], Israel's king, says,
their protector, the LORD who commands armies:
"I am the first and I am the last,
there is no God [Elohim] but me."Isaiah 44:6

Here, again, Jehovah says there is no Elohim besides him. In Mormonese, Jesus is calling himself God the Father.

"Don't panic! Don't be afraid!
Did I not tell you beforehand and decree it?
You are my witnesses! Is there any God [Elohim] but me?
There is no other sheltering rock; I know of none."Isaiah 44:8

Yet again, Jehovah says there is no Elohim besides him. In Mormonese, Jesus is calling himself God the Father.

Jehovah and Elohim are the same God! This truth is found throughout Scripture--it doesn't take a scholar to see it clearly:

You have been taught that the LORD [Jehovah] alone is God [Elohim] - there is no other besides him.Deuteronomy 4:35

Listen, Israel: The LORD [Jehovah] is our God [Elohim], the LORD [Jehovah] is one!Deuteronomy 6:4

Then all the nations of the earth will recognize that the LORD [Jehovah] is the only genuine God [Elohim].1 Kings 8:60

Acknowledge that the LORD [Jehovah] is God [Elohim]!
He made us and we belong to him;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.Psalms 100:3

"Then I will bring the remaining third into the fire;
I will refine them like silver is refined
and will test them like gold is tested.
They will call on my name and I will answer;
I will say, 'These are my people,'
and they will say, 'The LORD [Jehovah] is my God [Elohim].'"Zechariah 13:9
